WHAT IS TRIPLE R FM

Station records indicate that in November 1981 a steering committee was formed supported by the Woomera Board for the purposes of obtaining a community access radio station for Woomera. The Department of Communications completed its proposal for a new VHF FM licence service at Woomera in June 1982 and Woomera Access Radio was formed in July 1982. Two years later, on 3 September 1984 Woomera Access Radio was granted a category ‘C’ licence for a public broadcasting station to service the town of Woomera. On 12 January 1985, Woomera Access Radio Inc, trading as Triple R FM officially started licensed public broadcasting services at Woomera. Triple R later applied to the ABA for a variation to its Licence Area Plan (LAP) in 1996 and was successful in obtaining an extension of its LAP to include Olympic Dam, Roxby Downs and Andamooka.

To wrap up, Triple R FM is well equipped to continue providing a locally produced community radio service for Woomera and surrounding ares. We also have some exciting plans for the future of the station, but we need your support either as a station volunteer, a 5RRR member or financial sponsor.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL STATION

Community radio stations are normally made up of volunteer staff and rely heavily on local people to help maintain the operational viability of the station. This is where you can help by becoming either a 5RRR member or a station volunteer. Triple R FM has many volunteer positions that need to be filled, so if you are feeling a little nervous about becoming an on-air announcer (DJ) then there are plenty of other roles for you to consider. However if you are interested in the glamorous life of being a on-air DJ, then the station staff will happily provide you with the training to achieve that goal.  Things are on move in Woomera and for the very astute, you may have noticed that the 5RRR tower has moved to its new home in Dardurr Crescent next to the new Triple R FM studio. The relocation of the transmitter tower to its new home signals the beginning of the end for a project that kicked off way back in May 2005.
